Here are the GUIDE TO where to eat in Toronto! With hundreds and hundreds of restaurants to choose from, even as a native of Toronto, it's hard to pick the best of the best!
Most visitors will probably be staying in the downtown core, so I'll try to recommend restaurants easy to get to for the average visitor. Restaurants are categorized by genre (one or two for each), and please note the address, phone number (where available)and price chart.
Price rating systems are as follows:
* - cheap! $3-$10 for a meal.
* - $11-20 for a meal.
* - $21-$30 for a meal.
* - check before you sit down! more than $30 for a meal.
(alcoholic drinks, extra!)
FAMILY FARE:
Mr. Greenjeans - *
220 Yonge Street, Toronto Eaton Centre Toronto ON M5B 2H1
(416) 979-1212
10am-11pm
Casual dining experience for the whole family, located on the fourth floor of the Eaton's Centre, across from the doors out to Dundas Square. Several salads to choose from, wings, burgers, steaks, sandwiches, pasta, seafood, some asian dishes ... LOTS to choose from. Gigantic refillable soft drinks! Big portions. Fast and friendly service.
360 - The restaurant at the CN Tower *
301 Front Street West , Toronto ON M5V2T6
(416) 362-5411
Call for times!
You MUST make reservations before eating here or you are taking your chances. It's a super cool dining experience as the restaurant rotates at the observation level of the CN Tower. The meals are delicious - chicken, beef, seafood, vegetarian. However, it is extremely pricey. For two adults and one child at lunch we paid $140, without alcohol. If you want to splurge, this is the place!
MIXED ASIAN FOOD
Spring Rolls *
40 Dundas Street West, Toronto, ON, M5G2C2
(416)585-2929
11am-11pm (noon-11pm on Sundays)
This restaurant offers Thai, Vietnamese and Asian Food options. Casual dining, but also with a great Romantic ambiance!
323 Spadina Avenue , Toronto ON M5T2E9
(416) 977-1128
11am-3am
This is my all time favorite Chinese restaurant in Toronto. The Won Ton soup is to die for! You can get a big bowl for under $8 which will leave you full! This restaurant offers Dim Sum on Sundays and before 3pm on most days. I recommend the Singapore Noodles, General Tao chicken, Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings and Crispy Ginger Beef. Huge portions, great prices, and awesome service! It's a great place to go after a night out on the town. If you walk in and it looks full, don't leave! They have an even bigger dining hall at the back of the building. Two
people can gorge themselves for under $30. Note: A large bowl of soup feeds about 6 people, 2 bowls each. So, you might want to go for the small or medium!
Pho Hung * to *
200 Bloor Street West , Toronto ON M5S1T8
(416) 963-5080
9:30am-11pm
Awesome Vietnamese restaurant, just across from Rol San, at on of the many entrances into Kensington Market. A large bowl of beef brisket and noodles soup (I usually get a small for $3.75)
costs $5.50. The menu has over 100 items ranging from rice and noodles, to stir-fry, to appetizers, to soup. I recommend the Mango milkshake! This is the best place in town to go for fresh, delicious food which will fill you up for less than you'd pay at McDonalds. Note: Remember to bring cash. With everything so cheap, it's the only payment method they accept!
MEXICAN
Hernando's Hideaway * to *
545 Yonge Street , Toronto ON M4Y1Y5
(416) 929-3629
11am-1am
Located right off of great shopping on Yonge Street, Hernando's is a must-go! Great authentic mexican food, awesome decor and great drinks! Fortunately it is within stumbling distance of most major Toronto hotels! My son loves the Enchiladas. I recommend the Fajitas! Don't forget to finish off with some fried ice cream!
Tortilla Flats * to *
11am-1am
458 Queen Street West , Toronto ON M5V2A8
(416) 203-0088
Huge portions, huge menu ... right in the heart of trendy shopping ... it's a must go! I really, REALLY like their chimichangas and quesidillas! Free tortillas and dip while you wait! (Ladies, look across the road and to your right - LUSH is a great place to buy organic soaps and bath products! Gamers, after dinner, walk east on the same side of the street is Silver Snail, the best game and collectible shop in Toronto!)
ITALIAN
Old Spaghetti Factory * to *
54 The Esplanade , Toronto ON M5E1A6
(416) 864-9761
11am-9pm
I admit, this may not be the BEST Italian food in Toronto, however, you should not miss seeing the Old Spaghetti Factory. Don't get me wrong, the food is still very good! But the best thing about this restaurant is it has awesome decor, great prices, great for kids! Check out the old carousel, or sit in a box-car to eat!
Toronto has 177 downtown Italian restaurants, at the end of this article, I'll give a link to all of the restaurants in Toronto!
INDIAN Cuisine
Bombay Palace * to *
11:30-3pm, 5pm-10:30pm
71 Jarvis St. , Toronto ON M5C2H2
(416) 368-8048
Rated 5 stars by NOW magazine. (Now is Toronto's free magazine which lists everything from club bands to restaurants to local events!) This restaurant offers a $9.95, 25 dish buffet at lunch, and a full menu service for dinner! The restaurant specializes in food from Southern India. I recommend the Tikka Masala.
ODDS & ENDS!
Okonomi House Restaurant * to *
23 Charles Street West , Toronto ON M4Y2R4
(416) 925-6176
11:30am-10pm (closes at 8pm on Sundays)
Japanese okonomi yaki are something between a pancake and an omelet topped with whatever meat of vegetable strikes your fancy. Not a sushi place, the menu is full of meat and vegetable dishes, miso soup and even sake!
Sneaky Dee's * to *
431 College Street , Toronto ON M5T1T1
(416) 603-3090
24 hours!
More for the adults, however children are allowed during the day. Sneaky's is a sort of divey band-bar with awesome food. Tuesday night is 1/2 price Fajita night. Best Fajita's in town! Also I recommend the Kitchen Sink Nacho's! At College & Spadina. The restaurant also offers 24-hour breakfast.
